WGC Ladies Section

Welcome to WGC Ladies Section

Whitby Golf Club was founded in 1892 with a ladies section active in 1902.

This goes to show that, even back then, golf was not just for the boys. We do however, wonder how these pioneering ladies, in their Edwardian attire managed to hit anything.

Fast forward to the 21st century and today you’ll find a lively, friendly and inclusive group of ladies.
New members of any age or experience will be made welcome.

We do like to share our passion for golf with anyone who cares to listen - not always fun at parties but we don’t mind.

Importantly no one is left out or without a partner and we happily support new ladies on their golfing journey.

We lucky golfers have the advantage of playing our game in a tranquil and peaceful environment with breathtaking sea and coastal views - absolute bliss.

For the Beginner

Our fantastic golf pro James Ellis Caird is a professional coach. He holds one of the highest UK golf qualifications (PGA) but he’s really not that scary.

James would love to talk you through your expectations and answer any relevant golf concerns. Trust us - he’s a very patient and knowledgeable man. Please contact James on 07970595699 and he would be happy to talk you through beginners lessons.

If you’re not sure that golf is for you we have a selection of clubs you may borrow to start you off.

The ladies operate a flexible buddy system to offer encouragement and ease any new member nerves.

Our priority playing times are twice weekly on Tuesday and Thursday in the morning. And Sunday afternoon.

Even though we think playing golf is great fun, and reflect this with fun competitions, competitive golf is also on offer as you progress.

Twice a year we organise friendly competitions with local clubs for beginners. These are great days out and a gentle introduction into playing golf on another course.
